Primoverospring2016EH2000 blog #1 Heuristics

Heuristics
Through my research on the topic of Heuristics, it is a process of problem solving that uses personal beliefs and perceptions we have based on our own individual life and experiences. Decision making can be super simple or really complex. I learned the word actually means “to discover” from the Greek.
As humans we make choices and judgements everyday such as what to wear, if we can trust someone or not, what way to walk to class, and somethings as simple as, what we should eat (the pizza or the salad). Heuristics can almost be a force of habit type of thing, for example if I was walking to class in Bently Hall from south green and it is pouring down rain I am obviously going to go through Baker instead of walking up Morton hill where I would most likely slip and fall, I would not even think twice about the decision to go through Baker. Also heuristics can be not so simple such as peer pressure. Underage drinking in college, you know you should not do it and you know it is not good for you but all of your new friends do it, so do you? I think other people can change one’s heuristic over time. Especially right now in time, being a freshman college student some of my perceptions have changed already and I have only been here one semester.
One of the pictures I added is a photo I took on college green at Ohio University. I made a heuristic in deciding to go here based on my experiences I knew I wanted to be away from home and I also fell in love with this place. The other photo I took off of the internet is Mr. Simpson thinking if he wants to eat the donuts or not...relatable!
